The main objective of champion country is to promote understanding, cooperation, and concerted actions to achieve green development of BRI, and generate practical outcomes for implementing integration of environment and development elements of Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

In April 2020, Mongolia has confirmed to be the first champion country for green development under the BRIGC framework.
