On June 26, BRI International Green Development Coalition (BRIGC) held an expert meeting for the research project on creating a more internationally influential carbon market. Zhao Yingmin, President of BRIGC, chaired the meeting.
The research team made a report on the latest progress of cross-border carbon trading practices under Article 6 of the Paris Agreement. Representatives of the Department of Climate Change of the Ministry of Ecology and Environment, Institute of Energy, Environment and Economy of Tsinghua University, National Center for Climate Change Strategy and International Cooperation (NCSC), China Beijing Green Exchange, and CECEP Ecological Product R&D Center attended the meeting and exchanged views on the international practices and development trend of cross-border carbon trading.
In his summary remarks, President Zhao noted that with the kicking off of the full implementation of the Paris Agreement, international carbon markets are gaining widespread attention from all parties. Enhancing exchanges on practices of cross-border carbon trading and international carbon markets could provide insights for the construction of a green Silk Road and South-South cooperation on climate change. BRIGC will fully leverage its role as an international cooperation platform to share China’s experience in the development of carbon markets and promote research cooperation in relevant fields to support the engagement of developing countries in global climate governance.
